Over the years we have enjoyed many days out at Westport House, both as paying customers and as guests. This season, Westport House has generously gifted us a family pass so we can enjoy the house and adventure park this summer.
Having Westport House down the road is one of the wonderful perks of living in the stunning town of Westport in Co. Mayo.
2021 Season Information
Westport House has been awarded a Fáilte Ireland grant for Heritage and Cultural Attractions, worth €20.2 million. That means the house itself is under renovation for the 2021 season and is closed to the public. The Pirate Adventure Park, camping and trails are all open.
The Pirate Adventure Park Opening Hours:
June - 11:00am - 6:00pm on Sat19th and Sun 20th and re-opens daily from June 26th onwards.
July and August - Open daily from 11:00am – 6:00pm until Sunday, August 29th.
Booking in Advance:
Booking in advance online is advisable because Westport House is limiting the number of visitors that may enter the park each day to comply with government guidelines.
Members are also advised to book online, you simply enter your member number during the booking process. There is a 25% off sale on season memberships right now.
Eat, Drink, Wee:
For lunch or dinner, Gracy's Pizzaria and Bistro is open, booking in advance is advisable. They also offer takeaways.
There is tea, coffee and ice creams available near Tiny Town and also in the Pirate Adventure Park. There are toilets at Gracy's and in the Pirate Adventure Park.
About Westport House
Westport House was built in the 18th Century, on the grounds where Grace O’Malley had her castle. There is actually remnants of Grace's castle in the basement of Westport House! Westport House is privately owned. For over 300 years the Browne family, who built the house, lived there. In 2017, Westport House was bought by the Hughes family who is another local family.
It was open to the public in the 1960s and has been an attraction for those coming to visit Westport and locals alike, ever since.
Pirate Adventure Park
Snuggled in a cove of trees on the grounds of Westport House, is the Private Adventure Park, where children and adults alike can enjoy the rides and slides. The adventure park is the kids' highlight of our trips to Westport House.
A day pass to the Pirate Adventure Park provides unlimited use all day of all of the following attractions:

It is a huge plus that you can go on as many of the rides as you like for the admission price. There are a few games that you pay extra for to take part in: hooking ducks and panning for gold.
Our Day Out
As always, we thoroughly enjoyed our day out at Westport House. Everything was well organised. There is social distancing which caused short cues for rides, but because the overall number of visitors was limited, there wasn't a long wait for anything.
We went on every ride, slide, train and swan boats. The kids also tried out panning for gemstones which they really enjoyed. They each found 6 gems that they got to keep. They were given a little envelope to hold them in and a card that has the names and descriptions of the gems for them to figure out which ones they had found.
We also had a walk around the trails and grounds of Westport House, which is always beautiful. There is a new sensory garden in which we thoroughly enjoyed sitting in and listening to the birds singing.
We bought pizzas at Gracy's and ice cream from the hut at the Pirate Adventure Park. The kids thoroughly enjoyed the day as did I. We are looking forward to our next trip already.
