Travel Dreams Come True: Unforgettable Bucket List Holidays

collaborative guest post

As we head into the colder months, now is the perfect time to look ahead to your big summer getaway in 2025. By planning now, you have time to decide on every detail, from destination to what you want to do while you’re there.

If you’re dreaming of holidays spent meandering through bustling towns and relaxing on sun-soaked beaches, here’s a travel bucket list to help you whittle down your options.

Italy

There are holidays that suit every type of traveller in Italy. There are tourist hotspots such as Venice, with its romantic canals, Florence, the heart of the Renaissance, and fashion capital, Milan, which is home to one of the world’s most illustrious fashion shows. You might want a city break in Rome, where you can visit the Coliseum and toss a coin into the Trevi Fountain.

However, if you’re seeking something a little different, consider heading to Puglia, where you’ll discover the town of Alberobello, famed for its trulli houses with their conical roofs. Or wander through Matera, a city carved from rock, where ancient cave dwellings (Sassi) offer insights into the past.

Iceland

Two of the most popular reasons to visit Iceland are the Midnight Sun, where the sun is visible 24 hours a day in summer, and the ethereal Northern Lights that fill the sky in winter. Additionally, a dip in the famous Blue Lagoon, a geothermal bath surrounded by a lava field, offers the opportunity to relax while soaking in the mineral-rich waters.

If you’re looking for an active holiday, head to Thingvellir National Park. This UNESCO World Heritage Site offers walking routes and snorkelling among other activities against an awe-inspiring backdrop. For more adventurous experiences, you could try ice caving and hiking at glaciers such as Vatnajökull.

Or head to the rugged Westfjords region. This is a quieter spot away from the tourist areas and is home to dramatic cliffs, secluded beaches, and tranquil fishing villages.

Greece

Greece is a dreamy destination for those who love a combination of history, island hopping, and culture.

The picturesque islands of Santorini and Mykonos are famous for their stunning views, white-washed buildings, and lively atmosphere. Santorini’s black sand beaches, created by volcanic activity, offer a twist on the classic beach experience, while Mykonos’ nightlife and vibrant beach clubs are perfect for those who want a party holiday.

If you crave some culture, head to Athens where you can explore the Acropolis and ancient ruins. Check what the weather will be like before you set off, however, as this involves a climb so it’s best to do this when the sun’s not at its strongest.

Spain

From Barcelona’s surreal church, the Sagrada Familia, to the Alhambra, Granada’s stunning palace and fortress, Spain offers a mix of the past and the present. Whether you’re exploring Seville, with its Gothic cathedral and flamenco rhythms, or relaxing on the Costa del Sol’s sun-drenched beaches, there’s something for every kind of traveller here.

Spain is also ideal for holidays with friends, families, or even solo travellers. Cities like Madrid or Valencia are perfect for art lovers and foodies alike, while Ibiza offers some of Europe’s most famous nightlife.

For a more peaceful escape, head to the Picos de Europa National Park. This spans across the provinces of Asturias, Cantabria and León and offers peaks and alpine meadows that are perfect for hiking or mountain biking.

Switzerland

Switzerland is a dream destination for those who love outdoor adventures and scenic beauty. The Swiss Alps are renowned for skiing, but they’re just as magical during the summer, with hiking trails, mountain biking, and breathtaking vistas. Charming villages like Zermatt and Lucerne offer a taste of traditional Swiss life, while cities like Zurich and Geneva are modern, cosmopolitan hubs with excellent shopping, museums, and dining.

One of the highlights of a trip to Switzerland is experiencing the culinary delights of Swiss chocolate and cheese. A visit to Gruyères will give you insight into the art of cheesemaking, while a trip on the Glacier Express offers unforgettable views of the Alps from the comfort of a luxury train carriage.
