I’m delighted to welcome Laura from Dear Bear and Beany to The Happiness Series. I can’t believe Laura’s only been blogging two months, I feel like she started when I did. Laura blogs about life with her two precious daughters & has answered the Happiness Series interview questions. Here is Bear and Beany on happiness…
1. Name three things in life that make you happy. And, please tell us a little about each one.
My girls, Alice and Holly. The happiness that being their mummy brings me, is like no other. Everyday they bring a smile to my face, from listening to them giggling together, Alice telling me she loves me to the moon or Holly running as fast as she can to give me a cuddle.
My family, there is nothing better than spending time together as a family, whether sitting round the table each night having dinner together and chatting about our day, a lazy day at home or going on an adventure I treasure these times.
My blog, I only started my blog two months ago and I absolutely love it. The happiness it has brought me, in such a small amount of time is amazing. I love having something for me, something that is all mine, something that reminds me that I am still ‘Laura’ and not just ‘mummy’.
2. What’s something you do to find your happiness when you’ve lost it?
Being a stay at home is wonderful, but I find that I sometimes need to reset the happiness button! I do this by taking time out from the daily routine, this could be having some ‘me time’ without my girls. Or, by taking the girls on a day out doing something that we don’t normally do every day. Just being away from our daily routine, really makes me feel good again.
3. What cheers you up after a long, difficult day?
Once the girls are tucked up in bed. I love nothing better than taking myself to bed early with a coffee, a cookie, and my book. I don’t do it, as often as I would like, but when I do I really notice the difference after a long day.
4. Does being a SAH parent make you happy?
The simple answer is ‘Yes’, I love nothing more than being at home with my girls and getting to spend these precious early years with them every day. However, six months ago when Holly turned one, my maternity leave ended and I decided not to return to work. I did feel like something was missing, I needed something for ‘me’. That is how my blog was born, me doing something for me…
5. Share a happy memory with us.
The day my husband asked me to marry him, that was the start of our life together. It was snowing and we went for a walk, a walk that we had done so many times before and Andy suddenly got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. He had been planning on asking me, the ring was back at our house, but he didn’t plan to do it right then. It was totally spontaneous and caught me by surprise. It was the start of the journey that took us to this point with our girls and us being a family.
6. Do you think money can bring happiness?
I don’t think that money directly brings you happiness, that comes from within. But, I do think that if you are a worrier like me, that if we ever got to a point in our life where we had money problems. I would worry about this night and day and I think that would have an effect on how happy I was at that moment in time.
7. Is your happiness influenced by the things you do or the way you think?
Both, I am a big thinker and I over think a lot of the time. This can sometimes cause the unhappiness in my life, where I am probably overthinking something, analysing a situation too much and this can me anxious. Which is never a happy place to be.
By doing things that make me happy really helps to balance me out. It makes me appreciate either the people in my life that I am doing the things with or that I am lucky to be doing them.
8. Which would make you the happiest – a sun holiday, new car or a new job opportunity?
A sun holiday – A chance for us all to be together for a period of time without the daily routine, to have daddy with us every day. To create memories that will last a lifetime.
9. Which wine makes you happier – red or white?
White with a few bubbles…
10. Share a quote that makes you smile.
If you’re a bird, I’m a bird – From the film The Notebook
