We had a brilliant stay at The Connacht Hotel Galway! We always enjoy visiting Galway as the city is vibrant, busy & full of energy. We headed off Friday morning & explored the city. We checked into our two bedroom apartment at the Connacht Hotel on Friday afternoon. We received a lovely reception at check in & again in our room! The big bowl of fruit & chocolates went down a treat!
Our two bedroom apartment had one bedroom with a king-size bed, a sitting room, a kitchenette, a second bedroom with a double & single bed & two bathrooms. This is the kids room. The hotel had the travel cot for our daughter set up upon arrival.
My husband & I slept in this room. The king size bed was such a treat & very comfortable! I had so much room! It’s a proper king size bed, not two singles stuck together. There were extra pillows & a safe in each room’s closet. The two rooms are divided by the sitting room. It was really lovely to put the kids to bed then relax with a glass of wine & watch TV. In a regular hotel room we end up going to sleep when the kids do. This was so much nicer! I left the doors propped open with chairs so I could hear the kiddies. Alternatively, you could bring a baby monitor.
Each room had its own bathroom with a bathtub / shower. We had so much space in the apartment, it made for a very comfortable stay.
In between the two bedrooms was a sitting room & kitchenette. There was a TV / DVD player in each bedroom & in the sitting room. The kiddies made themselves right at home. The hotel has free WiFi with no code which equaled happiness for me. 🙂
The kitchenette has everything you could ever want! There was a stove, dishwasher, microwave, refrigerator & sink. Also, the cabinets were stocked with water glasses, pint glasses, wine glasses, plates, pots, pans & utensils. The refrigerator was fantastic! We brought milk for the kids & some cheese & wine to have in the room. I ran the dishwasher Saturday morning & everything came out spotless.
Having a kitchenette really did come in handy. I used the microwave to warm milk & having a place to keep snacks for the kids was very convenient.
Personally, I don’t enjoy cooking on holidays. I cook every day at home so I love to eat out when we are away. We had our two breakfasts & one dinner at The Connacht Hotel’s Reuben’s Restaurant. Read about our delicious dinner at Reuben’s Restaurant here.
The breakfast buffet had a selection of Irish breakfast items such as sausage, pudding, beans etc. They also had croissants, pastries, cereals, fruit, porridge & yogurt.
I love when there is a selection of tasty things for breakfast & not just a fry. The kids absolutely adored the buffet. They went back for seconds & thirds. The pastries, in particular, were a big hit. There were a lot of people down for breakfast & the staff handled the crowd so well. The food was constantly topped up & hot. The staff at Rueben’s Restaurant were helpful & kind & there were plenty of them working to keep things running smoothly.
The Connacht Hotel caters so well to kids. And you know if the kids are happy, then everyone is happy! They have a kids club with two members of staff supervising. The staff were really great with the kids! You may wait with your kids or sign them in & go downstairs for a meal or a few drinks (so long as they are 3 years or older). We waited while they played Friday evening then left them for an hour on Sunday while we packed the bags & loaded the car.
The kids club has two connected rooms that are open to each other. The room on the other side of the green wall above is for the older kids. It has foosball, air hockey, a big flat screen TV with games, books & lots more. The room in these photos has a play house, kitchen, dollies, construction toys, books & more. Our daughter loved playing house & cooking in the kitchen. The boys were out in a sweat playing foosball! All 3 of them really enjoyed the kids club.
The kids club staff were fantastic. When we left, they offered that we could bring a kids DVD to our room. Also, they gave each kiddie a bag of popcorn & a lolly. The kids club was a highlight of the trip for them.
Another highlight for us all was the pool. It’s HUGE. There is a large section dedicated for swimming laps. To the left in the photo below, is a massive shallow section where our 5-year-old was able to stand & swim unassisted. Towards the back, near the windows, is a shallow section with bubbles. On the left towards the camera is the baby pool.
We spent an hour splashing in the pool & all really enjoyed ourselves. There was a jacuzzi pool just off to the left which looks down onto the shallow end of the pool. The locker rooms were big & well kept. It was really convenient to walk from our room to the pool & back. Towels were provided at the pool & you bring your own swim hats. The hotel also has an extensive leisure center.
All of the staff at The Connacht Hotel Galway were fantastic. They were warm, welcoming & very helpful. When we checked in, they gave us a bus schedule which came in handy on Saturday. We took the 409 bus to the Oyster Festival. The bus stop is just down the road from the hotel & it saved us driving into the city. Our weekend in Galway was such a wonderful time! The kids are planning our next trip back to Galway already.
I’d like to say a big thank you to Emma & all of the staff at The Connacht Hotel Galway for such a fun-filled weekend. I received the opportunity to review The Connacht Hotel through my membership to the ITWBN (Into the West Blogger Network). All Irish bloggers are welcome to join.
