A road trip is something everyone should go on at one point in their life. It’s a different type of breakaway, where you can see multiple places in one trip and experience various cultures. Your road trip could be a trip through different countries (Europe is especially good for this) or it could be a trip through various destinations in a country - you could do Florida, Fort Lauderdale and Miami. Both road trips would be great fun, the main difference is the experiences you will get when staying in the different destinations - some places in Europe are the complete opposite of the US.
If you have planned your road trip, then now will be the planning stage. This can start as soon as your holiday has been booked - there is so much to do! To start with, having travel insurance is vital and this should be the first thing you do. Downloading your car games, like Solitaire can wait until the days approach your breakaway.
To help get you prepared for your road trip, we have put together our guide on six things you should have prepared for every road trip. From your insurance and music to accommodation and games, there is plenty to think about - the sooner you start, the less stressful getting prepared will be.

Travel Insurance
Never go on a holiday without having travel insurance. We mentioned it above and that it should be the first thing you do once you have booked your trip, which in this case is a road trip.
Travel insurance will cover you for any medical emergencies (which we hope you don’t have). It covers you for any damage or lost luggage as well as your gadgets should they get stolen or damaged on your breakaway. Travel insurance isn’t expensive and can be bought pretty much instantly, once you know what policy you would like to go for.
A Car Playlist
Whether you use Spotify or Apple Music, you can start putting your playlist together as far in advance as you would like. A playlist is going to lift the mood when you are feeling tired, whilst generating excitement when you are cruising through picturesque roads. You should have a whole range of songs, from classics that will get you singing at the top of your voice to new songs, which you can put on repeat. Remember to include songs that everyone in the car will enjoy, this way, you all get to enjoy listening to songs you like.
Emergency Supplies
This isn’t the most exciting thing to prepare, but it will come in useful, should an emergency happen. When driving long distances, you never know what might happen. The car might break or a tyre blows (we hope nothing happens). Before setting off, make sure you have a few emergency supplies with you, should you need them. Emergency supplies include a first aid kit, blankets, jump-start kits, torches, and a portable charge amongst other things. There are plenty of guides online that you can read on what to include with your emergency supplies.
Car Games
There will come a point on your road trip where you will have to drive for a few hours to get to your next destination. With all the wonderful views out the window (a road trip to see the Northern Lights would be fun), there will still come a point where you want to just chill by yourself for a minute. Having a few games on your phone like solitaire is advised as this is something you can play to kill time. You could find a game that you can play against the other people in the car or generic car games in which you can get everyone involved.
Pack The Correct Clothing
Ensure you have the right clothing for your road trip. Depending on where you are venturing off to, will depend on the type of clothes you should be packing If it’s cold, wet and windy, thick coats, an umbrella and underlayers will be useful. For snow, you should have some waterproof boots with you as well as a hat and gloves. If you have chosen a road trip to a hot country, then you won’t want to forget your swimwear and shorts.
Snacks
If there is one thing you will be most disappointed about should you forget it, that would be snacks. Snacks and a road trip are a must, so make sure you stock up before you start your journey. It’s your holiday, which means you can enjoy whatever sweet treat you desire. Make sure you have sweets packed, chocolates, biscuits, crisps and cakes. As well as things to eat, you’ll also want a few drinks in the car to enjoy, like a bottle of Coke, Fanta and an energy drink as this will help wake you up if you start to get tired. During your drive, you will get plenty of opportunities to stop off at the service station which is the perfect time to get a coffee or tea. This will also give you the chance to visit the toilets and grab some cooked food.
Summary
No matter where you go on your road trip, you are going to have a brilliant time. Road trips create memories of a lifetime and we are sure once you have been on one, that you will be thinking of another, especially as they are all so different.
Our best tip would be to start getting prepared as soon as you book your trip. The longer you give yourself to get prepared, the more excited you will be and the less stressed you will be as the holiday approaches (especially if you haven’t started planning).
