Armchairs have been gaining in popularity over the recent years. I read lately that accent chairs are seeing a huge 38% increase in online searches. And the most popular chair right now is the recliner chair. This got me thinking about my own armchair, and how much I love it.
When we first moved into our house, we had two couches and one armchair. When we changed our suite of furniture, we opted for one couch and three armchairs instead. This allowed us to add some extra end tables to the room and it is more comfortable for the family to each have a place to sit comfortably.
I absolutely adore sitting in my armchair in the evening, watching tv with the family. It's a comfy place to sit, next to a small table for my water or tea and my salt lamp.
As much as I love my comfy armchair, and how the room is laid out, I'd love to redesign my sitting room with new furniture. This way I could include some fun accent chairs and change the look up a little bit!
Here is what I've learned about armchairs and some shopping tips that might help you in your choices.
Benefits of Armchairs
An armchair is a comfortable, cushioned chair with a support on each side of it where you can rest your arms while you sit. My favourite type of armchair is big enough for me to curl up and read a book in it.

We find the armchairs really comfortable for creating our family memories, for all of the above reasons. It is also really comfortable for elderly family members when they come to visit. It is easier to get down and up from the chair rather than the couch because of the armrests.
The Accent Armchairs
Accent chairs are chairs that stand out in a space, by having a different colour and look from the other pieces of furniture. Making it a stand-out piece.
Beautiful accent chairs have truly gained in popularity. They can add an incredible boost of colour, style and design to a room. The accent chair has added a touch of class for decades. In recent years, the accent armchairs have been the chair of choice.
With the accent armchair, you get the benefits of comfort that you have from an armchair but also the touch of class, style and pop of colour you can have from an accent chair.
The Recliner
I wasn't at all surprised to read that recliners are the most popular type of armchair. You really can't beat them for the ultimate comfy armchair experience. You get all of the wonderful benefits of the armchair with the added benefits of the reclining action. Of course, recliners come in both electric and manual reclining action.
There are many benefits of reclining armchairs including:
Improves blood circulation by reclining back and elevating the feet
Can relieve back pain
Aids in mobility
Convenient for elderly people
Comes in a variety of designs, colours and textures
I'd love to add reclining armchairs to my sitting room. I think it would be even more comfortable while chilling out in the evening, to be able to have my feet up.
Final Thoughts
After considering all of these options, I'm leaning towards a mix of furniture including a couch, recliner armchairs and a beautiful accent armchair. It would be a stylish room but also super comfortable. It's that balance that is really important to me to keep our family space comfy and also stylish.
