Neglected Tasks to Dedicate Some Time To

collaborative post

We all have long to do lists. Most of them consist of routine tasks, such as work projects, childcare commitments, social plans, hobbies and more. But then there are the to-do lists that we never actually get around to. The less urgent items that tend to be pushed back and pushed back, week on week until you realise it’s been months or even years that you’ve been meaning to get around to them.

It’s always fulfilling to tick a big to-do off - and more often than not, you benefit from doing so in some way or another. So, why not free up a weekend in the not too distant future and spend a couple of days getting on top of some of the tasks you’ve been avoiding or simply haven’t had the time to focus on. Here are some suggestions that might prove relevant to you!

Painting and Decorating

You don’t have to restyle your own home to justify a little painting and decorating. You can simply go for a fresh coat of the same colour that is currently on your walls. You’d be surprised just how different the tone on your walls and the freshly painted walls will differ. Over time, dirt and dust can build up on your walls. Light can bleach them. Time can dull them.

A fresh coat can really make all the difference, leaving your home feeling fresh, clean and presentable. Of course, there are two ways to go about everything. For painting and decorating, you can do it yourself or you can call in some help. DIY approaches can be cheaper, but remember that you will need to invest in paint, rollers and other equipment to get the job done. Take care to cover floors and furnishings - or anything else you don’t want to get paint on. You can also find that it’s quite time consuming to paint your rooms yourself.

The second option is to call in a professional painter and decorator. This will come at a cost but will free up your time and energy and will also give your home a professional quality paint job and finish. Only you can know which option will best suit your needs!

Repotting Your Houseplants

If you have houseplants, chances are, you’re pretty committed to their survival. Nobody wants to see their plants wither up or struggle to grow. It’s greatly rewarding seeing your houseplants grow a little taller, produce flowers grow new leaves and more. This means we spend a lot of time watering them, providing them with feed and making sure they’re in the right light and humidity conditions to thrive. But one houseplant care task that most of us put off is repotting our plants. This is understandable.

Repotting can be a messy and time consuming business when done properly. But it is essential when your plants begin to outgrow the pots you originally placed them in. Small pots can result in your plants becoming root bound.

This prevents their roots from spreading far like they should and can result in a whole host of problems. So, invest in a new, larger pot, some soil, some potting gloves and get started on this venture. Your plants will thank you for it and you can use the old pots for more new, small plants.

Clear Space on Your Devices

Constantly getting alerts that your device is almost full or storage space is almost full? It’s time to consider your options. We use our phones, tablets, laptops and computers to store all sorts and you don’t want to find yourself consistently having to waste time finding space to store things. Whether that’s photos, messages, new contacts, apps or anything else. Your first option is to upgrade your storage.

You may need to upgrade your device to an option with a larger storage capacity. You may need to invest in memory cards. You may want to sign up to cloud storage, which usually comes with a monthly subscription fee. Your second option is to free up space by removing unused software and data on your device. You can follow the steps here to help with this.

Cleaning the Oven

Ovens develop a lot of dirt, grime and build up over time. Few of us actually commit to cleaning the oven after each use, so it’s not surprising they eventually hit a point where we need to really tackle them with some elbow grease to remove the old food inside.

Most supermarkets and homeware stores now stock kits specially designed for cleaning ovens and hobs. They tend to have warnings on and require use of gloves and goggles while using them due to their corrosive nature, but as long as they are used properly, they tend to be a success. A second option is to use a professional oven cleaner who can take care of every element of your oven, tackling this task on your behalf for a fee.

Returning Missed Calls

When we get a missed call, or an unexpected message, we tend to think we’ll reply to them later. But then this gets pushed back and pushed back until it’s forgotten. This can cause a number of problems, ranging from missing something time bound or upsetting someone who you care about. It’s a good idea to go through your call history and messages to make sure you reply to the messages you’ve been putting off. This shouldn’t take long, but will likely mean a lot to the person who’s tried to contact you.

These are just a few, varied examples, but hopefully some will apply to you. Alternatively, they may simply act as some inspiration for you to get started on your own to do list, checking off the things that have been weighing on your mind for a while now. Each task you tick off will come with a sense of relief and can see you benefit in a number of ways. So, stop procrastinating and get started as soon as possible.
