Nursery is going to be the starting point for your child’s growth. It’s where all children come
to enjoy learning every day, and it’s even a good time to help your child develop their skills
for the first time.
It can however be a daunting experience. Children are heading out into the unknown for the
first time which can be a scary thought for them. Helping them feel at ease before they start
their first day will be key to helping them through moments that you will never forget. Here
are some ways you can help your child along.
Give your child a tour of the nursery school
If your child is familiar with the surroundings they’re going into then it’s a lot easier for them
to handle. Thankfully a lot of nursery schools, like this nursery school in London, will have a
range of open days and visits available for parents and children across the school year. It’s a
good chance to help your child learn about their new school and who they will be playing
with and making memories with.
Take them for a walk to the school
As well as getting used to the facilities and areas in which your child will be learning in, your
child should also be able to get used to the commute you’ll take each morning and
afternoon. It’s a good chance to get them walking around and getting used to the sights
around the nursery school, as well as being able to recognise key parts to the journey. Even
if you have to drive to the nursery school it’s worth giving your child the opportunity to look
around and see what’s going on outside.
Get really excited about their first day
Sometimes the urge of excitement, intrigue and engagement can get children feeling really
happy and keen to get to nursery. It’s the same when taking your child to their first day of
school; your child should feel comfortable heading to nursery school each week and it’s
important that they feel happy to head there. If you make a real fuss this can really help your
child grow and feel happy about going to a new place.
Nursery is the place your child is going to greatly develop the beginnings of their first skills.
It’s worth providing a safe and welcoming space for your child to help them really feel
engaged with heading to nursery each day.
