Planning a motorhome adventure? There are few better places to explore by motorhome than Portugal with its beautiful landscapes, lively cities, coastal regions, and tantalising food and wine. It can be hard to choose the best destinations when there are so many alluring places, so this post will highlight the five must-visit destinations in Portugal for motorhome travellers.

Lisbon: A Blend of History & Modernity
Of course, no trip to Portugal is complete without visiting the hilly, coastal capital city of Lisbon. Lisbon is considered one of the best cities in all of Europe with its historic sites, vibrant culture, and delectable cuisine. There are numerous campsites and parking facilities in and around the city, but be sure to book in advance as it is a popular destination (especially in the warmer months).
Porto: The City of Bridges & Wine
Porto is another major city with its own distinctive culture and character. It is known for its famous port wine and scenic riverfront with many attractions, including the Luis I Bridge, Porto Cathedral, Duoro River, and Cais da Ribeira. There are also plenty of campsites near the city, but as above, be sure to book in advance.
Algarve: Sun, Sea, & Sand
The Algarve is considered by many to be the best place for sun, sea, and sand in all of Europe, and it is hard to disagree! The southernmost region of Portugal is known for its glorious climate, stunning beaches, and cool coastal towns. Keep in mind that the region is very popular in the school holidays, so you might want to consider off-peak if possible. Additionally, be aware that local regulations state that there is a maximum 48-hour stay rule in place. It is also a good idea to have appropriate motorhome insurance to cover any unforeseen incidents.
Sintra: A Fairytale Escape
Sintra is a town in the Greater Lisbon region that offers a great escape from the hustle and bustle of Lisbon. With its enchanting palaces, exotic gardens, and lush landscapes, Sintra has something for everyone. The streets can be narrow and hard to navigate with a large vehicle, so it is recommended that you park outside and use on public transport to get around.
Duoro Valley: Vineyards & Views
Duoro Valley is known for its terraced vineyards, which makes it a great place to explore for wine lovers with many places offering tours and tasting opportunities. There are also many designated campsites in the region, so it should not be to challenging to find a suitable place to stop.
If you are planning a motorhome adventure in Portugal, these are all places that should be on your itinerary. These places will show you the history, culture, and stunning landscapes of Portugal and should give you many memories to look back on for years to come.
