Autumn is the best time to get cosy and create an inviting bedroom before the outside temperatures start dropping.
A few warm colours here and a pot of cinnamon potpourri there, and your bedroom will start feeling like a cosy autumn retreat in no time.
But what if you want to go a bit further? You can upgrade to a wooden bed for rustic charm, bring in some autumn-themed artwork (Van Gogh all the way), and carve out a reading nook if you have the space.
Read on for more ideas to try out.
1.Dried flower arrangements
While fresh flowers are perfect for a dash of colour, dried flowers suit autumn-themed bedrooms better by mimicking the changing season. Orange gypsophila, dried wheat, and pampas grass are two autumnal favourites.
2. Wooden bed
If you need a new bed frame, a wooden bed is perfect for autumn and every other season, ensuring you always stay in style. Go for a bed with a natural finish and consider in-built storage if you need somewhere to put bedding.

3. Autumn colours
For an autumn theme, look to earthy tones, muted greens, and warm neutrals—terracotta, sage green, warm caramel, and beige are great choices. For a touch of character, add pops of red and orange to your décor and fixtures.
4. Fleece and flannel bedding
If you love a fleece or flannel dressing gown, then you’ll love bedding made from the same stuff. It’s warm, cosy, and beautifully soft against the skin – perfect for sinking into after a hard day’s work (and on weekends).
5. Winter duvet
When the temperatures dip, you’ll be glad for a winter duvet. These have a 13.5 tog rating (or more) and are much warmer than all-season duvets. We recommend breaking it out in late autumn (November to mid-December).
6. Woven upholsteries
Your curtains, rugs, throws, and cushions can all be woven to give your bedroom a rustic charm. The rough and heavy textures scream comfort and homeliness, giving your bedroom an autumnal feel.
7. New mattress
If your mattress is more than eight years old or you struggle to get comfortable on it, consider getting a pocket spring or hybrid mattress with a firmness rating suitable for your sleep position: medium for side sleepers and medium firm for back sleepers.
8. Natural décor
We’re talking potpourri, pinecones, terrariums, and plants – anything to connect your bedroom with the great outdoors. Plastic alternatives are acceptable, too, provided they look good (none of that obviously fake stuff, please).
9. Ambient lighting
Highlight all your autumn décor with LED light strips (perfect for underneath beds, wardrobes, and windowsills). String lights are another favourite – drape them across your bed and up the wall to your ceiling on hooks.
10. Pumpkins
Trinkets like pumpkin dangly leg friends for your shelves, pumpkin-themed bedding, pumpkin garlands, and other orange goodies will bring some Halloween spirit to your bedroom to capture the scary season.
11. Autumnal artwork
Hang some prints or paintings that scream autumn – landscapes are the best for woodland themes with warm, golden hues. Etsy is a good place for original art, while King & McGaw is decent for prints from famous artists.
12. Seasonal scents
Scented candles, diffusers, or potpourri with scents like cinnamon, pumpkin spice, apple, and hot chocolate are perfect for autumn – anything that evokes a sense of comfort. Or why not get baking and create the real thing?
Summing up
Autumn is as good a season as any to remodel your bedroom with new colours, furniture, décor, and textures to instil a sense of cosiness. Look to natural textures, materials, earthy colours, and soft lighting for that autumnal feel.
